Platform Overview
Welcome to Volo, a real-time audio accessibility platform designed for live and hybrid events. This overview explains the major components of the system, the roles involved, and how content flows from a presenter’s microphone to an attendee’s device.
What Volo Delivers
- Live transcription so attendees can read along in their preferred language.
- AI-driven translation that mirrors the spoken program in near real time.
- Text-to-speech playback for audiences who need audio reinforcement in another language.
- Presenter-friendly tooling that keeps event producers in control without extra hardware.
Core Components
-
Admin Console (Event Producer UI)
Web application used to create events, configure rooms, and initiate audio ingest. -
Real-Time Processing Pipeline
Managed cloud services that receive audio, run speech-to-text and translation models, and distribute text/audio streams to attendees. -
End User Experience
Mobile-first web app that provides language selection, live captions, and optional text-to-speech playback.
User Roles at a Glance

Workflow Snapshot
-
Prepare the event
Event Producer creates the event and rooms, uploads branding, and prints the QR code. -
Connect audio
The onsite A/V team feeds a balanced audio signal into a USB interface connected to the Event Producer’s laptop. SeeAudio Ingestfor best practices. -
Start streaming
In the Admin Console, the Event Producer selects the input device, verifies levels, and presses Start to stream. -
Consume content
Attendees scan the room QR code, select a language, and receive live captions or translated audio on their phones. -
Monitor and iterate
Producers watch room health indicators, confirm audience feedback, and stop the stream when the session ends.
Technical Requirements
- Browser support: Latest Chrome or Safari for producers; modern mobile browsers for attendees.
- Audio hardware: Class-compliant USB interface, XLR cables, and reliable power.
- Network: Stable uplink of 5 Mbps or greater with low jitter.
- Security: OTP login for producers; session-scoped URLs for attendees.
Key Considerations
Plan for accessibility
Reserve time before doors open to test audio ingest, confirm language availability, and verify that QR codes lead to the correct room.
- Redundancy: Keep spare cables, a second USB interface, and a backup laptop when possible.
- Noise floor: Monitor for hum or clipping and adjust gain at the source.
- Privacy: Obtain consent when required; mute the ingest when confidential content begins.
